Jordan Ellenberg was featured as part of the "Fueling Discovery" insert in the 3/22/2015 Wisconsin State Journal. This highlighted our amazing L&S faculty and their research. Jordan's article was on "New Math is Needed to Explore New Networks" and it is attached.
Nigel Boston and Timo Seppalianen have been named Simons Fellows for 2015-16.
The fellowship covers half of a sabbatical year, the complete list can be found at http://go.wisc.edu/g703bp
The Fellows Programs provide funds to faculty for up to a semester long research leave from classroom teaching and administrative obligations. Such leaves can increase creativity and provide intellectual stimulation. The goal of the Simons Fellows Program is to make it easier to take such leaves, or to extend sabbatical leaves by an extra half year.
Jordan Ellenberg has been awarded the John D. MacArthur Chair by the Chancellor and Provost offices. This is considered to be one of the most prestigious endowed Chairs on campus, with only a few of them given each year. It is a great honor, not only for Jordan, but also for our Department. We are all very proud of Jordan and fortunate to have him in Madison.
Timo Seppalainen has been awarded a Vilas Faculty Mid-Career Investigator Award.
The Vilas Mid-Career Investigator award is a campus-wide award that recognizes exceptional scholarly accomplishments. It is funded by the William F. Vilas Trust Estate.
