Some Interesting Puzzles and Paradoxes

I suspect that most of these items will be of interest to my students and to others interested in recreational mathematics and recreational philosphy.

Some Puzzles

  • Visual Puzzles, here are some rather astounding puzzles.
  • Logical Puzzles, some puzzles that require logic.
  • Mathematical Puzzles, some puzzles requiring some knowledge of mathematics. The necessary mathematics can be found on this page.

Some Paradoxes

A paradox is an apparently correct argument that leads to an apparently incorrect conclusion. Paradoxes provide some of the riches problems in Philosophy and are instructive in exposing our methods or reasoning.

Some Nice Theorems of Mathematics

There are many beautiful theorems of mathematics. Some are easily presented and understandable without requiring much mathematical knowledge. Here are a few:

Some Fallacies

A fallacy is an incorrect argument. Such incorrect arguments are, unfortunately, common especially concerning mathematical topics.
  • The Birthday "Paradox", how many people do you need in a room to expect shared birthdays.
  • Probabilistic Fallacies, what is meant by probability.
  • A Collection of Games, are your beliefs consistent?
