Enrollment

If you are having difficulty with enrollment in either the course or a discussion section, please see the math department help desk in 307 Van Vleck. Hours: 1/23-24 8:30-3:30; 1/25-26 9:00-3:00; 1/27-2/03 10:00-2:00.

Textbooks

Differential Equations and Linear Algebra 3E, Edwards and Penney, Prentice Hall (ISBN 0136054250).

Homework

There will be a weekly homework assignment, which will be posted in advance here. They will be due during your section. To facilitate fair, accurate, and timely homework grading, I will not accept late homework except in extreme cases.
In case you have trouble finding the problems due to not having a book yet, the problems from chapter 1 are available here.

Exams

Rooms for the exams:
If you are in Lecture 2 (lecture happens on TThs): B102 Van Vleck, 5:30PM 2/27 and 4/16.
If you are in Lecture 4 (lecture happes on MWFs): 165 Bascom Hall, 5:30PM 2/27 and 4/16.
If you are on my list to take the make-up exam, you have received an e-mail with the location for the make-up exam.

There will be two midterm exams and a final. The final will be held on May 13th, 2012 at 7:45 AM. Due to university policy, I cannot offer an alternate exam time for the final. The midterms will be on February 27th and April 16th at 5:30 PM with make-up exams held the following day at the same time. If you cannot make the exam times, let me know more than a week in advance to take the make-up exam. If you cannot make either time, let me know within the first 2 weeks of the semester, so that we can make alternate arrangements. If you do not inform me during the first two weeks of class, I will expect you to be able to make one of the scheduled exam times.

Use of calculators will not be allowed for exams. You must bring a valid UW Photo ID to all exams. If you are eligible for special consideration on exams, please let me know as soon as possible, so that I can ensure that your needs are accommodated. Note that the library has exams from previous years.

Help

Don't let your questions go unanswered or your confusion unresolved. There are several resources available when you want some help outside of lecture and discussion: (All of this information, and more, can be found at the Getting help in your math class page.)

Grading

There will be homeworks collected once a week, two midterms, and a final. The grade breakdown will be: 20% section grade (including homeworks and attendance), 20% each midterm, 40% final.
Section grades will be adjusted at the end of the semester, so that even if your TA grades harder than another TA, that will not adversely effect your grade.
