Text

The Elements of Set Theory by Herbert B. Enderton. This is an old book, but still one of the best. It was published in 1977, so you should look around for used copies.

Exams

There will be one in-class midterm on October 21st and a take-home final which will be due on Dec. 22nd at 4:45PM (If this seems unnecessarily specific, it is due to a university policy stating that take-home exams are due during the scheduled final exam time).

Final

Instructions on homework presentation/Requests from the grader:

Recall that this is a proof-based course, and thus a strict level of rigor is necessary in your solutions. Pictures are never proofs, but are always encouraged along with proofs.

Your solution should not be just a sequence of equations and formulas. Make sure that your presentation is clean. Do not submit solutions with crossed out parts. Recopy problems if necessary.

It is okay, even encouraged, if you work on the homeworks in groups. The written solutions, though, must be your own, and you must acknowledge that you worked in a group, giving the name of each member of the group.

    Grading

Your grade will be comprised of the midterm (30% each), the final (30%), and homeworks (40%).
