Abstract: This talk will be very elementary and will assume only a basic knowledge of the structure of finite dimensional semisimple Lie algebras. No previous knowledge of quantum groups or crystal bases will be assumed. In the talk I will define a quantum group. Then I will show how to define a crystal basis associated to a certain kind of module for the quantum group. Finally, I will give some simple examples to show how crystal bases can be understood using Young diagrams and tableau.
