Linear Algebra & Differential Equations (Math 320)
Lecture 3
|
Course Info:TextbookDifferential Equations and Linear Algebra (second edition), Edwards and Penney, Prentice Hall.Note: there are two books listed as required for math 320 at the bookstore. However, this is the one you want. We will follow the book and cover most chapters.
Scheduling and GradingYour Math 320 grade will be distributed according to Professor Shterenberg's course description . As described there, your grade will be based on homework (20%), midterm exams (20% each), and a cumulative final (40%).Homework will be given at the end of each chapter (schedule will be posted on the main course page as it develops), and will come directly from your textbook. Additional problems can be worked for experience. For those problems which you do hand in, you will need to show your steps, justify your answers, and write clearly in order to receive full credit. It should be neat, clear, legible, and written in complete sentences. If you have any questions about write-up, come speak with me during office hours. The homework assignments should be found here. Exams will be given once a month in lecture. There will be three midterms, and one (cumulative) final. Your lowest midterm grade will be dropped. No scheduled conflict or make-up exams will be given.
Review sessions will likely be held shortly before the midterm and final exams. Specifics will be announced as each exam draws near.
Technology PolicyCalculators, textbooks and notes are all extremely good tools for learning mathematics. Students are strongly encouraged to use these resources fully in order to learn the material. However, calculators are not allowed on exams for the same reasons that books and notes are not allowed on exams. Students are encouraged to use calculators while studying and doing the homework problems in the same way that textbooks help with studying and doing homework problems. |
