Discussion Section Policy:
Welcome to discussion section! The discussion section mainly helps you to solve problems. By that I do not mean that I will do all your homework problems. You cannot learn math just by watching someone do the problems on board. You have to practice the problems yourself. I will try to help you out when you are stuck with a particular problem. So when you ask questions about a particular problem you should be able to explain to me how you tried to solve it, or where exactly you are stuck at. Remember I will not lecture in class. So it is absolutely necessary that you go to Prof Angenent's class regularly and learn about the tools that we will be using in discussion.
Announcement: Prof Angenent maintains the course webpage
You will find there the course policy, syllabus, exam dates and also many other important information. You should definitely visit this site frequently to know about important updates.
Notes for Midterm 1: Solutions to old exams (problem 5 to 9), Some Quick Facts
Notes for Midterm 2: Quick Facts , Solutions (Updated)to some sample problems from lecture notes (2nd derivative test, Lagrange Multiplier)
Homework Policy: Your discussion section grade will be based on homework. As you might have noticed in Prof Angenent's course website that it counts for 10% of your total grade. There will not be any quizzes, simply because there is not much time for it as we just meet once a week. Every week Prof Angenent will assign a bunch of homework problems for practice. The link to those problems can be found here. And every week I will grade three or four problems from the assigned homework. I will let you know beforehand through this website which problems I have selected for grading on a particular week. So please visit this website frequently to know about the problems chosen to be graded. The due date will also be given. LATE HOMEWORKS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. HOMEWORK SHOULD BE NEAT AND CLEAN. STAPLE YOUR HOMEWORK WHEN YOU SUBMIT THEM. WRITE THE DAY AND TIME OF YOUR DISCUSSION SECTION ON THE TOP OF YOUR HOMEWORK
Note: You should do all the homework problems that Prof Angenent assigns and are highly encouraged to turn them all in even though the pre-selected problems will matter for grading purpose. I can check the steps for the rest of the problems. This will definitely give you some good practice and it also makes you well prepared before the exams. WHEN YOU SUBMIT YOUR HOMEWORK THE PROBLEMS WHICH WILL BE GRADED SHOULD APPEAR FIRST. KEEP THAT IN MIND BEFORE STAPLING YOUR HOMEWORK.
