We are pleased to announce the

2nd Graduate Student Conference in Probability,

which we will host at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from
May 2nd to May 4th, 2008.

The schedule and the abstracts are now available.

The keynote speakers are
NEW: We recommend using the LaTeX beamer package which creates PDF slides. Extensive documentation is available here (1.7 MB file). We strongly discourage the use of Microsoft® Powerpoint as there have been severe problems with the display of equations before.
  1. What is the goal of this conference?
We give you the opportunity to practice giving a conference talk about your research.
We also try to establish connections between students interested in the same areas, in order to inspire subsequent collaboration.
At the end of the conference, you will have a better idea about what people in the same career stage as you are working on.
  2. Who can participate?
The conference is for graduate students or young postdocs.
  3. Will there be funding?
You should definitely ask your own department for financial support first.
We do have funding, but most likely not enough to support everybody. We will try to give as many students as possible support for travel expenses. (Last year we covered up to $250.) We definitely will NOT offer financial support for lodging and meals. Instead, we will offer the possibility to stay with graduate students in Madison.
When you fill out the registration form, indicate if you want to apply for funding. Again: We cannot guarantee funding, but we will try our best.
Due to an unexpectedly large number of registrations so far, we most likely will not be able to offer funding or housing to people registering after today (Feb. 13th) UNLESS they are willing to give a talk.
  4. To register, follow this link. NOTE: The registration will close on Sunday (03/09/08)
  5. For questions, contact Mathew Joseph.

You can check out LAST year's topics if you want to get an idea what it will be like.
