Quizzes
- Wednesdays
- Each quiz lasts 10 minutes.
- Each quiz counts for 10 points.
- Only the top ten quizzes count towards your grade.
- Because the lowest two quiz grades will be dropped, no makeup quizzes
are allowed. I recommend saving your low quiz days for emegencies
(sickness, family illness, bad day, etc...).
- Quizzes are cumulative but focus on the material covered in the previous week.
Cheating
I do not tolerate cheating. If caught, you will at minimum be awarded a zero
grade on the assignment and at maximum an F in the course. That said, I think
collaboration on homework is fine, so feel free to form study groups. Quizzes
and exams are personal work only - NO collaboration allowed. This includes
looking at a neighbor's paper.
Homework
This is a very important part of your grade. Doing the homework is also a great
way to study for quizzes and exams. While most homework is completed online,
all starred homework must be printed out and turned in during class.
In this case, it is due the following
day at the beginning of class. No late work will be accepted. I recommend
starting the section's homework as soon as we cover the section in class.
During the next class period, ask any questions that arise, and then
finish it up while starting the next section's homework.
While I do accept e-mailed
questions, I cannot guarantee I will be available 24/7, so don't save your
questions for the last minute!
Participation
I expect each student to present two problems on the board in the course of the semester.
If this prospect alarms you, come talk to me and we can go over a problem in advance
to go over. Otherwise, I will periodically announce problems for students to do on the board.
Workbook
You are responsible for every problem in the workbook. We will not cover
every problem in class. The other problems are meant for you to try on your own and
then ask me if you have questions or want to check your answers.
Grades
- Midterm Exams: 150 points each
- Final Exam: 300 points
- Homework: 130 points
- Quizzes: 100 points
- Participation: 20 points
This is a total of 1000 possible points. Your letter grade will be assigned based on the following scale:
A: 900-1000
B: 750-900
C: 600-750
D: 500-600
F: 0-500
THERE WILL BE NO MAKE-UP QUIZZES OR HOMEWORK IN THIS CLASS.
Instead, I will keep only your 10 highest quiz scores and 30 highest homework scores.
This means that roughly 2 quizzes and 7 homeworks will be dropped.
