Review Problems for final exam now posted
Solutions to Review Problems now posted

Formulas: There will be a sheet of formulas (for trig functions: double and half-angle, cofunctions, addition and subtraction, sum and product; there will also be geometric formulas, such as the volume of a sphere -- click here to see the sheet).  There will also be a unit circle that gives special values of the trig functions.

Exam emphasis: There will be some emphasis on material covered since the 3rd midterm.

Tips for studying for the final  The best thing you can do is to work problems.  However, I would first recommend briefly reading all the sections we have had HW on (see the homework page) to remind yourself what topics we covered and what the main ideas were.  Then work several problems from each section.  Focus on problems similar to the ones on the HW -- or you could rework the HW problems and then compare to your solutions back when you did the HW.
You should also try to work through as many of the review problems as possible.
Finally, to get an idea of what to expect on the exam, you can take a look at finals from previous years (click on "Old Math 171 Exams" above).

From Section VI.14 of the UW Madison College of Letters and Science Handbook: "The time of a two-hour block for a class and/or the due date for a take-home examination may be changed only with the prior approval of the associate dean for Student Academic Affairs. Such changes are rare. Where a student has more than two (that is, three or more) Summary Blocks scheduled within a period of 24 hours, the instructor may, within guidelines adopted by the College faculty, reschedule a final exam for that individual student to avoid hardship."
