Syllabus

Textbook:
Thomas' Calculus, Including Second-Order Differential Equations, 11th edition.

Grading Policy
There will be two in class exams and a final exam each worth 30% of your grade. The exam with the lowest score will be counted 20% (10% less). Work in discussion is worth 20% of your grade and will be awarded by your TA. This will be based on homework, effort, quizzes and participation in discussion. Your TA will decide how to exactly do this. The scores will then be curved. No single is exam will be curved. The precise curve will NOT be determined until after the final exam. However, final total of 90-100% is guaranteed an A, 80-89% is guaranteed a B, 70-79% is guaranteed a C and 60-69% is guaranteed a D.

Homework:
Mathematics is not a spectator sport. You will not learn the material by watching your lecturer and TA do problems on the board. The following is a list of suggested homework problems. You are encouraged to do these and even more problems. Your TA will tell you which problems to write up and hand in. She or he might decide to give you a quiz instead. Click here for a list of suggested problems.

Lecture schedule
Click here for a schedule of lectures. It is subject to change. You are responsible for the material covered in the lecture. I may not follow the book exactly. Make sure you know somebody in class who you can borrow his/her class notes in case of an absence.

Classlist
An email Classlist has been created for important announcements about this course. Your @wisc.edu or @students.wisc.edu email address is the one that will be used for the list, as well as all other official communication from the University, so check your email frequently. Also check your Junk Mail folder regularly, as some ClassList mail may end up there! DoIT is working on this potential problem.
