What should you do if you have a (class) question?

Read the syllabus - the answer might be there. If not, ask me! You can ask me before or after lecture, before, during or after discussion, in my office hours, in the hallway, or by email. Please don't hesitate to ask me anything!

What should you do if you have a (math) question?

First, read though the section in the book - you might find the answer there. If that doesn't work, ask me during any of the times mentioned above.

Homework

Homework will be posted here. In general, I will not collect homework. However, if I feel that students are not doing the homework on their own, or not understanding the material I will start to collect some homework. Regardless of that, you should do each and every problem that is assigned. Homework problems are the best way to learn the material!

Quizzes

We will have a quiz every Tuesday (except the first week) at the beginning of class. The problems on the quiz will be very similar to the homework problems assigned for the previous week.

Grades

Your numerical grade will be calculated as follows:

Midterm Exams: 20% each
Final Exam: 40%
Discussion: 20%

The discussion grade will be based on a combination of quizzes, homework, and participation. At least one of your lowest quiz grades will be dropped. Ideally, I'll keep your top ten scores and drop the rest, but it depends on how many quizzes we have during the semester. No makeup quizzes will be given.
