        Text:           Mathematics for elementary teachers

        Syllabus:  We will be covering chapters 8-11 from the book.

        The goal of this course (as Beckmann says) is to help future
        elementary school teachers develop a deep understanding of the
        mathematics that they will teach.

        Attendance:  Students are expected to attend every lecture. In
        fact, 20% of your grade will be based on attendance.

        Grading:  There will be two 75 minute exams given in class,
        approximately the sixth and twelve-th week.  The final exam will
        be at the assigned time and day:
          Final  Sunday May 7   7:45-9:45am.
        In addition, for each day of class I will grade one problem
        from the assigned homework or I will give a short quiz based
        on the assigned homework.  Note: assigned homework is always due
        in class exactly one week from the day it is assigned.  We may
        also tryout doing group presentations from the class activities
        manual.


        Percentage breakdown of your grade:

        20%  Attendance
        25%  Daily homework or quiz  (or group presentation?)
        15%  Sixth week exam
        15%  Twelve-th week exam
        25%  Final exam
