It will cover chapt 9 and will also contain two or three questions from chapts 1-8. Books and notes will not be allowed on the exam. You can use a calculator if want to work problems on interest rate. Otherwise you can express your answers symbolically, i.e. unsimplified. There is no Final Exam. &&&&&&&&&&&&& Q. I was wondering what type of calculator we will be able to use on exam #5? Can we use a graphing calculator or a scientific calculator? A. Either one is OK. &&&&&&&&&&&&& Q. Could you please explain the difference between present value & amounts of an annuity? A. Present value is the value at the beginning of the first period of time. Amount refers to the value at the end the last period of time. &&&&&&&&&&&&&& Q. While going over the homework problems in the book I have had much more success using the book's formulas rather than using the methods you explained in class. Unfortunately, it was brought to my attention that the other 210 class doesn't even use the book's formulas for chapter 9 because they are inaccurate. With that said, I was wondering if it would be a bad idea to memorize those formulas and use them on the exam. A. I am sorry the book is so bad. I only use two formulas. P(1+i)^n = Q and 1+x+x^2+...+x^n = (1-x^(n+1))/(1-x) The rest is elementary algebra. &&&&&&&&&&&&&&& Q. Are you available for any kind of office hours on Tuesday or Wednesday? A. Wed 1:15-2:15 &&&&&&&&&&&&&&& Q. Will amortization payments and sinking fund payments, as described in 9.3, be covered on exam 5? I don't have notes about the equations given in the book in my notes. A. Anything covered in a homework exercise might appear on the exam. I don't use equations from the book. Only the two I have mentioned above.
