Answers for odd numbered problems are in the back of book. A student study guide with completely worked out solutions to odd problems can be obtained from the publisher, Brooks/Cole 1-800-354-9706 or it may be available from the University Book Store. Syllabus: We will covering chapters 1-6 from the book. In addition to learning the concepts and techniques of the calculus, students will be expected to sharpen their algebraic skills. Grading: There will be an in class (50 minute) exam on each of the chapters 1-5 and a (two hour) final exam on December 15 which will cover chapters 1-6. The chapter exams will count 50% and the final exam will count for 35% of your grade. In addition, 15% of your grade will depend on short, in class, one question, 10 minute quizes, which may often consist of a randomly chosen exercise from the end of the section just covered. Makeup Exams: I hate to give makeup exams. It is impossible to make them fair. You must have permission from me to take such an exam. All such exams will be given on the last day of the semester. Attendance: Students are expected to attend every class (5 hours a week). In addition students will need to study an additional 10-12 hours outside of class. This will include actively reading the book as well as working the exercises at the end of each section. Calculators: Due to the fact that there is a wide variation in the abilities of calculators they will not be allowed on exams. Some exercises use graphing calculators or computer aided algebra and may be covered in class if there is student interest.
