homework and quiz policy: Homework counts for 10% of
your
grade. It will be assigned every day after lecture, and monday,
wednesday, and friday's homework will be collected in discussion
the following thursday. There will be no credit for
(unexcused) late homework. Valid excuses for late homework include
illness (not alcohol-related) or
family emergency and you must contact me ASAP and be prepared to
provide proper documentation. Your
homework must
be stapled (there is a stapler in the math library at the counter,
which is located in room b224 of van vleck) and include my name
and your discussion time on it.
Quizzes count for 10% of your grade. They will be given
every thursday at the beginning of discussion and will be based on
the homework being collected. They will be 1-2 problems and no
calculators will be allowed.
resources:
Math Help
Resource
Page. This is a list of several resources available to you for
finding
additional help in your math classes. In particular, it will point you to
the Greater University Tutoring Service
(GUTS) (a free one-on-one, small group, and drop-in
tutoring
service),
and MathLab (also
a free drop-in
assistance, Monday through Thursday, 3:30 - 8:30 PM, in B227 Van Vleck).
There is also the Math Tutorial
Programwhich is a free, structured program that provides
additional biweekly tutorial sessions and office hours. It is a very
good option for those who need extra individual help, and frequently
students in this program see their grades go up by a significant amount.
After the first 2 weeks of class you will need me to refer you to the
program. In addition to these services,
there is a list of private tutors available on the second floor of Van
Vleck from Sharon the receptionist and here. An
email sent to tutor@math.wisc.edu
is automatically forwarded to everyone on the list.
