Introduction to Measure and Integration -- Math 629

This is a basic course in real analysis, covering the Lebesgue theory of measure and integral.
It is targeted at advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate students.

Professor Folland maintains a webpage with errata in his books.

Syllabus: We shall cover chapter 1 and 2 of Folland's book, and some additional topics, as time permits.

Office hours: Tentatively Tuesday 3:00-3:50. Also, I am usually available after class.


Midterm exam: TBA
Final exam: May 9, 2010, 12:25-2:25.

Grading: Will be mainly based on the midterm exam (in class, appr. 30%) and the final exam (appr. 40%). Homework will count for appr. 30%.
I reserve the right to deviate from this scheme.



Reading Assignment:
Obviously you should read the sections covered in lecture concurrently with the course (ideally ahead of time).
You should also read Sections 0.1, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5; this should be material that you have seen in other courses.
We will need those sections quite a bit in our course, but I will also review some of this material when we do.
