Math 320 Differential Equations and Linear Algebra

Spring 2007

Prerequisites: Math 222.

Textbook: Differential Equations and Linear Algebra, Edwards and Penney, Prentice Hall. We will follow the book and cover most chapters.

Grades. Homework will be assigned regularly. It is okay to share ideas on homework, but the final version handed in must be each student's original work. There will be three midterm exams and one final exam.
Grading scheme: The worst result for your midterm exams will be dropped. So if you miss or fail one of midterm exams by some reasons it is not a problem. But I cannot do anything if you miss two midterm exams. Homework 20%, two of three midterm exams 20% each, final exam 40%.

Exam Dates. Exam I: Friday, February 16
Exam II: Friday, March 23
Exam III: Friday, April 27
Final Exam: Monday, May 14, 2:45-4:45 PM
There will be no scheduled conflict or make-up exams. The final exam will be comprehensive.

Differential equations are the fundamental tools that morden science and engineering use to model physical reality. The importance of differential equations to these disciplines cannot be overemphasized. A distinct subject in its own right, linear algebra is a part of mathematics concerned with the structure inherent in mathematical systems.

Books, notes or calculators will not be allowed in exams.

The homework assignments will be posted below. Ideally, you should do all the problems in the book, but turn in only ones listed in the assignments.
