Graduate Minors in Mathematics

There are two main steps for a graduate student in some other department who wishes a minor in mathematics:

  1. Plan what courses, when completed, will meet the minor requirements. The Math Department minor advisors (Professors Kiselev, Rossmanith, and Wilson, in 2005-2006) will meet with you. There is a planning form to be used in laying out what courses will count for the minor: You and the minor advisor will complete this form and you can keep a copy of it. (You can print a copy of the form here and fill in some parts before the meeting.) The requirements are also available online, click here, for your use in thinking about what courses to take. It is not required that you get the form completed before taking courses, but it is highly recommended since only in that way can you be sure the Math Department will accept your courses for a minor.
  2. Upon completion of the courses that have been agreed on as constituting the minor, you need to get the graduate school warrant signed. Your major department will request a warrant for you from the graduate school. Bring that warrant to one of the Math Department minor advisors to be signed, then take it back to your major department.
