INTER-LS 144: Success in Your Math Course

This in-person, 1 credit, letter-graded, full-semester course is open to MATH 96 and 112 students. During the Fall 2026 semester, we will offer three sections of the course:

  • Tuesdays, 9:55 – 10:45 AM, reserved for students enrolled in Math 96
  • Tuesdays, 12:00 – 12:55 PM, reserved for students enrolled in Math 112
  • Tuesdays, 1:20 – 2:10 PM, reserved for students enrolled in Math 96

Course Setup

Inter-LS 144 is designed to help students succeed in their math course, but is not itself a math content course. Instead it focuses on helping students to develop study skills and learn how to apply them to their mathematics course. Each week, prior to coming to class, students will explore a new skill. During class, students will work in groups to practice applying that skill to what they are learning in their math course. The topics covered will include:

  • Time Management
  • Notetaking
  • Setting SMART Goals
  • Preparing for Exams
  • Growth Mindset
  • Managing Procrastination and Stress
  • How to Review Graded Assessments to Improve Learning
  • Spacing, Interleaving, and Retrieval Practice
  • Problem-Solving and Learning Strategies

Who Should Enroll

Inter-LS 144 is ideal for students who are looking for academic support in their math course that goes beyond support with the content. Inter-LS 144 is not a mathematics course, rather its focus is on helping students:

  • Develop the habits of learning that lead to success in mathematics courses
  • Develop an understanding of who they are as a learner so that they can create schedules and routines that help them succeed in their math course
  • Learn study skills that will assist them in going beyond completing assignments to learning content in a way that prepares them for success on assessments

Math Content Support

While this course is designed to help students succeed in their math course, it is not a math content course. Therefore, this course is likely not a good fit for students who are primarily interested in receiving support with the content in their math course. Instead those students should:

  • Make use of the services offered by the Math Learning Center
  • Attend office hours for their math course (details posted in their course Canvas page)
