UW does well in Putnam Exam

The UW did well again in the 83rd Putnam math competition. Our team ranked 14th nationwide (plus Canada). Our student Haran Mouli ranked 25-100, Jonah Guse ranked 101-210. Additionally, Kyle Boone, Yangkun Dai, Tianlong Huang, Yuval Lerman and Yufei Zhan made to the top 500. UW-Madison does well in Putnam Competition

UW-Madison did very well during the annual MAA Putnam Competition.  Our university ranked #25 nationwide, including Canada, out of 427 other institutions. Our student Ivan Hu received honorable mention. Joseph Cai and Nitit Jongsawatsataporn ranked among the top 500. Justin Sukiennik awarded 2021 Forward in Access Award

Justin Sukiennik, Associate Faculty Associate, has been named a recipient of one of the 2021 Forward in Access Awards.  Justin, who serves as our Co-Director of the Precalculus Program, was honored for creating an inclusive educational experience for all students.  He was recognized, among with 7 others, and awarded with a commemorative plaque. Undergrad Sam Christianson awarded Hilldale Fellowship

Undergraduate Sam Christianson has been awarded a 2021-2022 Wisconsin Hilldale Undergraduate/Faculty Research Fellowship. Working in the Madison Applied Math Lab alongside VISP graduate student Hongyi Huang and Associate Professor Saverio Spagnolie, Sam is exploring the dynamics of bodies in gas-filled fluids using experiments and numerical simulations. Math major among recipients of Goldwater Scholarship

Gage Siebert, of Fremont, Wisconsin, was among three UW-Madison students named as Goldwater Scholars. He is majoring in physics and mathematics.  As a freshman, he studied the origins of life in Professor David Baum’s lab at the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery.
